P. 5,last ep:  I love the problem-solving techniques we learn in this show!

    The Project Do Better manifesto, P. 200 reminds me of the İnspectors (both of them!!), and sometimes also the Professor’s method of problem-solving, eliciting suggestions from the group and using the process of elimination. 

   Even the soldiers respect The Professor.

And the global financial system as a giant Casino:  good analogy, sort of.

Now we see why the series is called House of Cards/Paper: because the global financial system is really an illusion, as the Professor explains.

And even working in a mention of the Spanish Armada!!

Excellent!

And of course, who could pull this off except for the Spaniards, as Lisboa says, when she cites the Lazarillo    (review posting on Monday, 21.8.23) as something the English would never do, right?

La Casa de Papel/Money Heist Mass Transportation to WWII Italy Thursday, via P5e8??

        Would these people please remember that this song is not a celebration song?!  Ok, a homage to the fallen, yes, but not a happy song!  This song is a way of going back to the WWII Italian partisans who were taking leave of their loved ones, it’s a way of going back to that desperate and brave time of resistance against impossible odds, that it where this song takes us!   Thanks to the Prof.’s grandfather:    Betrayals and more betrayal…

Where does a torturing detective learn to hot wire a car pick locks?    Ok, so this week is not transporting us anywhere good, but Public Transportation freely available to everyone could help make bank robbery an idea of the past, perhaps?  (ok, along with a few more Public Goods…)

Magic Door Transport Thursdays -La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) P5e6

       Obviously, some doors are not doors anyone sane would want to open, but others:

       What a beautiful story of a tragic life being transported elsewhere through creativity:  a magical door invented by a desperate mother… 

(and Tokyo grows up just a little bit too late, but at least shares the beautiful idea that her mother gave her…) 

Great point about needing violence to keep the peace, Palermo (in our current system…), even if you are a Sociopath, formed perfectly for & by this system, just like your non-lover Nutcase. What a beautiful admission by  Rio:

“Ya no somos a quien seguir… que vayan a sus casas, por favor.” / “We are no longer worth following…please go home.”   

and that shouted response:

   “No nos vamos!”  / “We will not leave!“

Wow.

Y gracias, Angel, otra vez:  “sus sentimientos son de verdad.”  “…their feelings are real.”

These were all people, desperate husbands, kids of desperate mothers, or of desperate fathers, all failed by an impersonal system that lets people fall through the cracks and die.  This is what the Professor is resisting.

Estoy llorando/I’m crying…   Ok, finally.  Finally, some substance.

This episode was worth waiting for, as it transported me to a place where even the bad guys have real feelings, whoever they are.

La Casa de Papel/Money Heist Thursdays, Part 5, ep. 5: Sacrifice Transports, But Does it Build Empathy?

       So Denver has finally stopped being an idiot.   Who’dve known it was possible.  And Tokyo is finally learning about life, as she is about to give hers to save her lover and comrades:

   “Si tiene el valor de renacer.”  ….  “If one has the courage to be reborn.“

Like Assàne Diope, inspired by the never lethal methods of Lupin:  “…et plusiers vies pour en profiter.”   “…and several lives to benefit from it.” 

Telling the kid to start his next life…   So, Tokyo has also done some growing up.

Wow. 

But, does that mean that she has learned empathy, or merely being sorry for having wasted her life?

   “Este es el plan Parir!”   Well, Plan Give Birth didn’t go as planned, did it, Inspectora?  Ok, Calgon, Take Me Away!!

   I hope those cuffs have microphones, because Tamayo will do his best to lie about everyone. Babies in prison??? Look up the defense of Stalingrad… Oh, great, now the criminals, sorry, soldiers, are even robbing Indigenous Cultures! 😦 With no problem blowing up the museum to make it easier to kill the civilians!

Transporter Thursdays -La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) Part 5, ep. 2

    Like the transporters the Prof. uses as intermediaries, this show may be a way to transport us to another place, but I think I prefer public transportation to transport us to a better place all together.

Why barefoot?  To show that they are unarmed?

  And the army is there

“…a tomar una position, no pensando en salvar vidas.”

                                          “to take a position, not thinking about saving lives.”

   These guys (and woman) are worse than the members of the French Foreign Legion!!!

And sorry to celebrate, but please tell me Arturito is finally dead!!

Thinking Thursdays, La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) Part 5, ep. 1: Who Are The Good/Bad Guys?? Quienes son los Malos?

Gracias, Angel: al menos alguien dice la verdad:  “Estamos saltando la ley màs que ellos!”

Thank you, Angel:  at least someone tells the truth: “We’re breaking the law more than they are!“

And of course, he nearly gets kicked out for his trouble.

Why do confraries/fraternal groups like this hold so much loyalty to each other over loyalty to the truth, and to just treatment for all of us?  Are we still so animalistic? 

Maybe so, because now it’s the Professor’s turn to endure torture by the same expert…

And finally, something good comes out of the mouth of Palermo:  “Ese oro ha sido robado una vez,de los Maya, los Inca, los Quechua…”  Si, que es hora de devolverla!   Yes, it is indeed time to return that stolen gold to the peoples of North and South American from whom you stole it!

Oops, and the Prof in her grip, while the Band has the army to deal with (and this is an excellent illustration of why we separate military from civilian domestic police forces, at least in theory…)
