Review: Vortex, Episode 5/6, and Errors or Insanity?

This is the episode where everything goes wrong, and they tell him, but he makes the mistakes any way. Taking all of the evidence, and coming to the wrong conclusions. Both of them, in both different time periods. Obviously, this begins to complicate both Ludo’s current life in the present day, which is 2025 or 2027, I forget which, and also in Melo’s life back in 1998, or what little bit of life she seems to have left at this point. Two days, if memory serves correctly. Naturally, Ludo is dismissed from the case, Melanie back in 1998 manages to shoot the wrong person, and of course, that real bad guy continues to gain power as everyone looks the wrong way. Looks bad for both of our heroes, just as a good story ought to. In both time periods, the friends of both our our heroes believe that they are both going completely insane, and both are starting to run the risk of being institutionalized before either of them can finish doing what needs to be gotten done to prevent Melo’s death. This is the episode where his second wife, Parvana, begins to really confront Ludo with the consequences of bringing his first wife back to life, if he is not entirely crazy. Either way, she’s had enough, and takes their son with her as Ludo descends further into error, or madness, take your pick. And here comes that old jealousy of mine, again, upon seeing Melo meet her now grown daughter, as she stands in 1998, while her daughter is in 2025 (or is it 2027?): so this is what a real mother is supposed to do, to be there when a child her child is ill, not to ignore the child when the kids screams in pain, to be there when her child is sad, not to run away and claim to give her space, to be there when her child graduates from University or with a master’s degree or with a PhD or almost a PhD. To be there. So I guess that’s what a real mother looks like. I wish that every child had one.

And remember that this is the last episode before the final scenes, in episode six, so this is really where it must all go wrong for the hero, and this story does exactly that.
