Read my most recently published book, free now, on The Archive: Stayed on Freedom’s Call: Black-Jewish DC, with walking tours,
some of my narrative nonfiction shorts:
A Wrap up from an incident at work, with three linked shorts, each describing a time when I was actually given the same respect that a man would get:
first at Annapolis,
third, in Bath;
More shorts to learn by:
Never hit your elders in the jaw,
Should some of us not exist?
And then, the short that started them all:
(and then, a post about historical cooperation between Americans, but in Spain…)
Then: see my Nonfiction WiP Do Better: a Roadmap to a kinder society in about 70 years, and this is my
working book cover: Note that I am still looking for a simple step-by-step road map image/logo:
The book (or manifesto for Project Do Better, actually) Do Better, is now in its Third Draft, and is seeking Beta Readers.
If you are interested in reading, please leave a comment here on this Page, and I will link to the pdf.
And then, finally since I cannot bear not to mention my fiction work that has gone neglected for so long:
My historical fiction WiP Who By Fire (I got side-tracked in March ’21 by Do Better…):
I began writing this historical portal fantasy novel in June, 2020, when certain characters would not let me alone, and my ancestors seemed to demand that I write.
My current Work In Progress: Who By Fire: I Will -Book 1
Who by Fire: I Will is a historical fantasy novel cycle trilogy.
“Forever is a very long time.”
To save his son, a desperate escaped slave must make a choice, but the price is eternally high.
The hero (aka the Protagonist) is an escaped slave, who dreams of buying his wife Lucy’s freedom and moving North with her and their son.
His particular friend is a Free Person of Color, one of the main characters, devoutly Christian, who teaches at night, and dreams of visiting Damascus as part of his Pilgrimage to the Holy Land, before he dies.
Next planned novel:
Working title might be “Concussions and Conversions: a family’s journey from triumph to tragedy in Oklahoma” … based on the story of my gr gr grandfather Wayne Anthony Manzilla, and how his murder affected his wife, mother, siblings and 5 children, down through right to my generation.
I look forward to your thoughts.

Stayed on Freedom’s Call
includes two ‘imagination-rich’ walking tours, with songs, of Washington, DC. New interviews and research are woven into stories of old struggles shared by both the Jewish and African-American communities in the capital city.
Shared histories are explored from a new perspective of cultural parallels and parallel institution-building which brought the two communities together culturally and historically.
