Now that we have finished my favorite science fiction series, Babylon 5, I’m delighted to finally be properly reviewing my favorite portal fantasy series, which I have mentioned several times in the past: El Ministerio del Tiempo. This time travel series, which does not use high tech, but does use humor, social juxtapositions, and history to devastating effect, is originally from Spanish Public Television, RTVes. The videos were initially available on the RTVe website, then pulled when a deal was made with Netflix, and then put back again a year or two later, limited to viewers in Europe (or those with a free proxy set to Europe…).

This series has been helpful, as it comes with CCs, in brushing up on my European Spanish, as some platforms like to call it, along with my history of Spain and of Spanish literature. It is a gem of a show in so many ways that I can hardly wait to begin sharing, so here are some of the main characters!

Amelia, to start with, will be our first featured main character, and then we’ll meet:

and then the irascible Irene, so popular with the ladies, who is the first woman to head the leadership team of the Ministry of Time, thank you for your intelligence, Ireni Lara.

      Some of the same themes, like when must one disobey an unconscionable order, and how we could rise above our selfish natures, are taken up in this show in different ways, but even better, in the first two seasons. And all right here on earth!

          Can’t wait to review capitulo 2!!
          (if you’ve not seen EMdT, I got the episodes from RTVE.es back when the first season was really easy to download (but I lived in France), and the next season I had to use a free web proxy, set to France, but was able to download with no problem. If you don’t live in Europe, that trick might still work, but I don’t know, as it looks like they’ve set up some sort of subscription now, for certain shows. Isabel, la Catolica was easy to watch in 2016 with no proxy, as was Ojo por Ojo, both excellent shows, but they’d already walled off EMdT. I’m sure there are other ways.

    1. Exactly the reason I’ve been reviewing La Casa De Papel (and I really needed those CCs at first, since Latin American Spanish is much clearer than Castillian, at least to me).

      I did the same with Lupin, at first, since Parisian French is much faster than that of Bretagne.

        1. These are short resumes of various episodes, not the episodes themselves.

          Most producers check regularly to remove full episodes online for shows, to keep them behind a paywall. Sihirli Annem is very rare in allowing the shows to be up on YouTube (probably because there is no franchise or station still behind it, as Star TV and Kanal D no longer own the show).

            1. No worrries. It is still good for people to see some highlights of various episodes, as with B5, since it gives a flavor for the show. I have all of the episodes from quite a while ago, but I will have to get someone to try on the RTVE.es site from Europe, or via a free proxy like hoxx, to tell me if the episodes are still accessible for free via Spanish Public Television’s site.

            2. Et si il te dit que ca se vois pas dans ton pays, pas de souci, ça c’arrange facilment:

              1.)on telecharge une proxy (hoxx, par example: en cherchant dans les Add-Ons du Browser, voir soit Firefox soit Chrome, de ma preference…),
              2.) on se metts dans une pays qui le convienne,
              3.) Hoxx dirait que les liens des maintenant sont en ce pays (cette à dire qu’il semble venir de ce pays), et
              voilà !

              J’ai utilisée cette façonne de telecharger les videos de Muhtesem Yuzyil et de El Ministerio del Tiempo, les deux ‘set’ vers la France, si je ne me rappelle mal.

          1. Ca me rappelle d’une collègue á l’OMS. Sa famille etait des Juifs d’Allemagne qui se sont réfugiés en Argentine. Nous parlions Englais sur les sujets du travail, Danois sur les sujets de famille et Allemand sur les sujets philosophiques et religieuses.

            3. Parce que je déteste Être attrapée dans le monde des anglophones, où on croit que l’anglais est le mesure de tout, et que rien d’autre ne vaut rien. C’est ainsi aussi aux États-Unis, où mes compatriotes ne regardent pas ce que n’est pas en anglais. Mais surtout, c’est cette culture de supériorité que je déteste.

            4. En Europe, les Francais sont un peut le même, tous doit être en Francais. Il y’avait même un ministère pour la purification de la langue Francais, mais je ne crois pas, qu’il existe plus. L’Italien est aussi parlé un tas au sud-est de l’Europe. En Turquie on pouvait ce débrouiller avec Francais quand j’étais là. Mais, il est toujours mieux savoir des phrases elementaires dans la langue locale.
              Mon frère dit que l’Espagnol va devenir une langue sécundaire en Amërique quelques parts.

            5. Oui, je sais. L’Academie Francais le fait maintentaint. Cependant, ca n’avait pas empeche’ pleins des gens me demander des cours gratuits en anglais. 😦

              Et c’est vrai: l’espagnol et tres fort ici aux Etats Unis, et c’est pour ca que pleins des gens veulent que l’anglais soit prise pour langue officielle ici, pour ‘eviter qu’ils apprennent quelque choses… 😦 C’est une partie du raison pour que j’ai long temps voulu devinir citoyenne d’un pays au Union European ou de Denmark, soit meme la Canada.

              Je sais que c’est tres dificil: j’ai deja vecu en France, et avant ca, en anglaterre, et j’ai pas pu rester devenir citoyenne ni en l’un ni en l’autre. Maintenant, je cherches quelque sort de communaute ou vivre, mais je n’ai pas grandes espoires. Si il passe le pire ici apres les votacions dans deux ans, je suppose qu’il vas me faloir vivire les six mois a la fois en Canada et six aux Etats Unis, soit en Europe sans papiers, si est possible. On verra bien d’ici la.

            8. Les Danois sont complettement foux au moment avec leurs politiques xénophobes. Mon mari dit qu’il ne peut pas reconnaitre son pays. Mais ca c’est pour les fugitives. Si tu as un travail spéciale tu peux travailler ici et plus tard devenir citoyenne. A Copenhague il y’a des organisations internationales comme l’OMS par example, si on veut travailler au Danemarque. J’ai vu que les américains n’ont pas besoin d’un visa pour entrer au Danemarque, mais on peut seulement rester 3 mois. Je crois que c’est le même dans tout le UE.

  6. Apropos langue officiel, je pensais a la Belgique, ou on a deux langues officielles, le Flamand et le Francais, et la Suisse, ils ont quatre langues officiels dans ce petit pays, et ils survivent bien il parait.
    Au Canada ils ont Anglais et Francais aussi, n’est-ce pas? J’ai testé une fois, si je avais une chance d’être accepté au Canada, et je l’avais. Quand on parle Francais aussi, les chances sont bonnes. Maintenant, comme retraitée, ils ne me veulent plus. 😉 😀
