Learning Empathy, and Hope for Housing, on Day 24/67?

My thoughts on  Day 24 of my 67 night-school class set of lesson plans for GED/HiSet learners, remain on how to build compassion, if not social empathy.
How, or what ideas do you have on this, could we help build more social empathy and compassion into our society?
And housing.  How in the heck do we get a market based system to build housing when Enough for All is fundamentally in contrast to the interests of a profit-maximizing home-ownership system (i.e. home values go up far faster w/a shortage of housing…)?
    Sorry, I am still tired.
I am still sure that the human race can Do Better.
