Other Important Rulings are Being Forgotten…

This topic, which is getting even less attention than the overturning of Miranda v. AZ ’66, may be nearly as important, over the long run (since the horrific state of affairs recently codified will be continued over the next generations by these rulings not being discussed as much):

“We have never previously held what the court holds today, namely that a state must use state funds” to finance private religious schools.

In her dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor pointed out that : “Today the court leads us to a place where separation of church and state becomes a constitutional violation.

And  I keep trying to work, remembering Toni Morrison’s admonition that this is the time when the artist goes to work, and toni_morrison_2008-2 not to succumb to this world’s malevolence.
I look forward to your impressions, Thoughtful Readers.

    1. I wonder what strategy Dr. King would use to deal with this, given that the church is no longer the organizing tool that it once was (due to lack of attendance, now, in the general community…).

      1. Boy, isn’t that a great question. We need that kind of leadership. Sadly, the churches that have a strong central control have become tarnished by sexual and financial misdeeds and therefore a loss of credibility. We need strong leadership – with integrity – right across the world.

        1. Hmm, I’d tend to agree with you, although I wonder if the BLM approach, decentralized with multiple leaders in various cities, could also work if there were enough coordination.
We have agreeing principles, all we lack is a plan.
(and in this case, I’m not suggesting Project Do Better’s plan, except as a plan within a plan, as it still calls for more short-term plans in this situation…)

    1. Yes, Sir, they are, but we still not allowed to despair. We have endured worse, and we will continue to work for All of Us, as we must, no?

Thank you for your thoughts, and for your presence.

  1. Thank you so much. Yes… I think this case is not as sensational, but it will have long term consequences. Sotomayor is right that this decision makes the old fashioned separation of church and state unconstitutional by substituting the Free Exercise Clause for the Establishment Clause.
