The skill of translating ideas into other terms, or of translating mathematical terms into social ideas, is a crucial part of Adult citizenship responsibility, and is thus part of any democracy movement. Understanding sets of power relationships is also a crucial part of being an Adult in a democratic society. Mathematics helps with that, as does reading novels, from your local public librarians list of recommendations!

So it looks like this was the point in the semester where time caught up with me and I ran out of the energy to keep integrating history or science readings with the math and grammar parts of the lessons. Since students were using a set of Master the HiSET books in the classroom, if you cannot get an online version of a larger GED/HiSET prep book with a summary of all of the material tested in the 5 subject areas, please try looking for a set of open High School text books and then cross-reference that with the free practice tests for the GED and HiSET exams. Back in 2016 I prepared for the Secondary mathematics (middle school and high school level) Praxis exams using online texts books, so I know that a bit of digging will reveal a variety of good open source text books online across grade levels.
Just let me know if you need help finding resources, and I’ll find something.
